I read a glowing review of this book in the WSJ, and, having already an interest in Polynesia, I bought it.However, I have been rather disappointed. The book, rather short, would benefit from from a historical table. It doesn't seem very well organized. One jumps from 50,000 years ago to 10,000, to 3,500. You go from New Caledonia to Taiwan, to Papua New Guinea.One added disappointment is that this hardback is on cheap paper, and the illustrations fuzzy and poorly printed.
